Summary

The authors studied predictors of CrCl less than 50 ml/min among HIV-infected, individuals who had never taken ART. They suggest that few patients would be excluded from a TDF-based antiretroviral regimen, so creatinine clearance assessment may not be necessary for implementation. In ART settings individuals with low BMI or anemia could potentially be at increased risk for lower CrCl.
