English: PDF [6.8MB]

This report profiles some of the experiences and challenges of HIV-infected women in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). A complex set of social, economic and cultural factors make women across the MENA vulnerable to HIV. Economic insecurity increases women’s vulnerability to HIV. Cultural norms that favor men, cloaked in religion and reflected in national law in many countries, increase women’s vulnerability. Women have a difficult time getting information on sexual and reproductive health and women living with HIV face many personal, social and financial challenges. Even more vulnerable are the millions of female migrants and refugees.
