Summary

This programming framework was designed to assist with scale-up of HIV prevention, diagnosis, care and treatment for children who are exposed to or who have HIV. Following an international consultation of 100 participants held in New York in 2006, the framework was created to outline key strategies for scaling up these services. The guidance in this framework is evidence-based, emphasizing early HIV diagnosis, cotrimoxazole preventive treatment for children who are exposed to or who have HIV, and timely entry to care and treatment. Studies also confirm that children in both resource-limited and high resource countries respond well to HIV treatment.
