English: PDF [363 KB]

The product of the WHO's 16th Meeting of the Expert Committee on the Selection and Use of Essential Medicines held in October 2007, this is a new list of essential medication for children 12 years or under. The drugs listed are classified as part of the core or complementary group. The core list constitutes the minimum drugs necessary for basic healthcare provision for children, and the complementary list includes drugs that are necessary for high priority diseases or in facilities with specialized diagnostic or monitoring facilities. Additional symbols indicate whether a drug has an age restriction, is in the process of being declared essential, or that it has similar clinical performance within a pharmaceutical class.
