Summary

While there is general agreement on the beneficial effects of active management of the third stage of labour, there are several issues which are yet to be resolved, such as clear definitions on the individual components of the intervention, the best methods and the requirements for the safe administration of this intervention under conditions of limited resources. The World Health Organization held a Technical Consultation on the Prevention of Postpartum Haemorrhage in Geneva on October 18-20, 2006 to discuss the various issues related to prevention of PPH and to develop recommendations. This report documents their findings and recommedations.
