Summary

The modules, while primarily intended for in-service training programs for midwives and nurse-midwives, can also be used in basic and post-basic midwifery programs. In addition, the modules can be used to update the midwifery skills of other health care professionals. They are intended to serve as the basis for teaching midwives and midwife trainees, or others requiring these specific midwifery skills, to respond appropriately to major causes of maternal mortality such as hemorrhage, abortion complications, obstructed labor, puerperal sepsis and eclampsia. The modules can also be used for updating the knowledge and skills of midwifery teachers.
