Summary
This online CME activity gives cases related to the care of an HIV-infected pregnant women. During the activity the user makes selections about clinical care that lead to an extended discussion of related medical findings, research-based evidence, and case management considerations. This course covers the risk of birth defects in the setting of antiretroviral therapy during pregnancy and methods of screening for birth defects. The user should learn to identify antiretroviral regimens that pose low maternal risk of toxicity and minimize the risk of congenital abnormalities in the fetus, taking into account common interactions between antiretroviral drugs and other medication. The course addresses the postpartum management of HIV disease in women, including decision-making about elective cesarean delivery.
